    I still wonder why they keep Mazda. I think they should sell it, but keep Volvo. Volvo has a lot to offer to Ford, but not much with Mazda.

    I think both Volvo and Mazda offer different things to Ford.

    Most notably,

    Mazda = Sport
    Volvo = Safety

    I personally think Mazda is more important.

    hmm... lots of WhatIF's going thru my head...

    if "small-Mercs" could equate to an globally-sold American'Mazda' for Fomoco?
    if the non-camcordtima mfgs (& a handy keiretsu**) could consolidated into a Japanese-GM?
    (could be something Mazda wants & aims to control?)
    if (as said at the link) Mazda's at a peak of desirability now but may not stay so irresistible?
    &
    imho there are quite a few mfgs that desperately need the styling help that Mazda could provide...

    2008 Q2: $103 Million Profit

    Ford are moving away from CD3, does that signal either a reduction to say, 10% or complete sale?

    At least it's profitable and they may get a billion for their 33% controlling shares.

    Ford won't sell Volvo while it stinking up the books, they'd get nothing for it anyway.

    kinda wonder if the sale would 'position' Fomoco More differently from GM -- hard to explain it...
    guess it has to do with an us/them mindset* & with Volvo practically-obviously being expendable as the last "ForeignFord"/not-really-us;
    I get the impression of a _ _ _ _ _ (sorry just ran out of metaphors)

    I don't want to see ford unload Mazda. They are the most profitable entity. And also the platform sharing would potentially be in jeopardy. I'd possibly like to purchase one of the 2010 Mazda 3's but, with Ford selling or possibly selling there 33% I'm concerned for mazda. Can they purchase the stock from Ford and continue to operate? I don't want to see Mazda get in the financial situation they did years ago before the Ford stake. I don't think i'll buy until I know mazda is more sure footed. I'm sorta dissapointed in Ford. i wish the best for Mazda.
