Buick Side Steps Lexus and Acura to take Aim at Lincoln
Buick Side Steps Lexus and Acura to take Aim at Lincoln

(Surrey, UK)Performance on par with a Lincoln MKS seems to be benchmark for Buick engineers when dialing in the new Buick Sedan. Buick even seems to be flaunting its bench mark as they openly drive around with mules as pictures from autoblog proof. While the information coming out of the manufacturer's camp (Buick) is muted, is easy to see why the MKS would be the preferred benchmark vs. Lexus or Acura.
Its clearly evident from the Buick Enclave that Buick has overtaken Lexus as far as execution and styling goes in its new product offerings. Clearly, GM considers its Detroit based rival as the new game in town and has side stepped Japan for this product. Given that the CTS was benchmarked against German offerings, its would be great to see how GM internal analysis reached to the conclusion that Lincoln is the product to beat in this segment.

Why do I see so much similarity between the LaCrosse and MKS???
Is the LaCrosse growing in size??

I know most of you aren't going to like what I'm fixing to so.
I don't think it'll be all that hard for the Buick LaCrosse to overtake the Lincoln MKS I mean from what I can see it just looks better and I'm sure the interior materials and quality surpass the Lincoln's.
The only reason I can see why the LaCrosse wouldn't be the better car is just because of the Lincoln MKS' upcoming Ecoboost V6 Engine. But other than that to me the Buick LaCrosse is just better.Last edited by MERCURYSABLE08; 09-19-2008 at 12:01 PM.

no problem with your opinion, Mr.SABLE
tho mine disagrees

in addition to a possible EcoBoost_3.5-competitive engine [],
will the Buick offer Awd?
and/or a feature list like the MKS? thread-link
will GM buy a Sync license?
&
I'm hoping that both the I/LC/A & MKS, ie All GM and Fomoco
both contribute to changing/winning the "PerceptionWar"
& synergize eachother's sales and status; which^^^
I believe is happening and can be 'read-into' the title of Autoblog's article & this thread;
since, not for One minute will I believe Ford&GM aren't "gunning" for the "foreign invaders"

The competition is good. With this new Buick LaCrosse, the MK S must be better next year. Maybe all leather dash, real wood trim and some styling new touch to be competitive with Buick.
I dont know if the next LaCrosse will be bigger, but in the pictures looks like the MK S.Falcon Lover

The MKS is a much bigger vehicle than the New La Crosse. But interior dimensions are simmilar. I think Buick is looking at certain aspects of the MKS that perhaps their internal data shows its class leading.
I had the pleasure of driving a Buick Rainier back to back with a Lexus ES, and I can tell you, when it comes to interior quietness, Buick is better than anyone in the business. That said, the MKS sitting position is one thing that Buick could emulate.
On Sync, GM has certain number of systems which combined are as good as Sync, especially now with bluetooth capabilities.
Also this new Buick is AWD capable... I think Buick should wait for the MKS eco boost so that they can gauge the powertrain capabilities, though the GM V6 is probalby one of the best V6's on the market now. Better than Nissan's VQ series in many aspects.

Is the LaCrosse to grow in size from the concept by 9 inches? I couldn't fathom why GM would have the Lucerne AND LaCrosse in the same segment.

The interior of the Buick is not too shabby. I would wait until the final production trim before giving the win to Lincoln. Japan has a lot to worry about. This below is pre-production
