    Default How SMALL is small? ..."Honey, I Shrunk the Mercurys"

    ...wanted to gauge opinions on Merc's 'Fantastic Voyage' that May be coming
    as Fomoco plays "Honey, I Shrunk the Mercurys"

    the following descriptions of the How-Small-To-Go Numbers
    are just SUGGESTIONS-only on what the numeric scale Might mean (reason I didn't put them in the ^official^ Poll part)
    ((tho hopefully in a correct order of severity)) with multi-picks allowed for fudging,
    feel FREE to post your own details to go with Your SHRINKAGE #:

    Ø = completely disagree with reducing anything about Merc
    -1 = eliminating the (current) GrandMarquis
    -2 = ^plus^ adding C2 Mercurys
    -3 = ^and^ eliminating Sable (?MKS becomes Sable when Lincoln goes GRwdP?)
    -4 = ^also^ adding a Mercury Fiesta, B-something
    -5 = ^even^ adding a Mercury KA-based model
    -6 = ^moreover^ changing the MKZ to be larger than the Milan
    ____Or Milan smaller than MKZ
    ____Or one of 'em has got to go
    -7 = even smaller?
    O = other
    C = as long as they build a new Cougar ...
    D = don't know how I got here / don't care / I'm sick of Polls
    ____(SORRY, ran out of room - you'll hafta Write-In this choice )

    ---
    ideas & stuff I banished to the bottom of the post cuz it may be superfluous:
    For some time I've played armchair-GIC (guy in charge) with ideal lineups for Mercury, and of necessity Ford&Lincoln to attempt a cohesive overall plan.

    One idea was to let Ford & Lincoln go after the Largest-Trunk in each class and let Mercury "tailor" their versions with a trimmer derriere(tush); some/many with a 'dual-back' arrangement not unlike the Skoda Superb, where a separate trunklid is incorporated into a hatch (without! necessarily changing or dictating the styling ie. sedans & coupes wouldn't have to become fasterbacks Or semi-wagon-ish).
    &or/also-maybe
    Could a 'hopscotch' approach work, with Mercury & Lincoln alternating models aimed at various segments:
    if Lincoln has a large Navigator-or-MKT, could Mercury offer a tauter MetaOne < names just used for reference;
    or could a nextgen Mariner specifically supplement the next MKX?
    etc...

    But more than ^that^,
    - could modern platforms lead to easier variability? (wlb, ovl, even width?)
    - could Mazda &or Volvo vehicles offer a basis for a non-Fordish (or LINCOLNESQUE) Mercury lineup (or part of the lineup)?
    - then (of course) there's the Global Rwd Platform (GRwdP aka "riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma")...

    I'm voting
    2 (my Milanetto ),
    C, of course, &
    Other, cuz still think some larger-than-Milan people'n'stuff-mover would be good - whether it's a unibodied-Mountaineer/MetaOne, U.berS.ized S-Max, Milan-CX, whatever...
    &
    ...not sure I shoulda put the GMarq first - tho it's just a matter of time imho and didn't preclude a GRwdP replacement...
    tho came awfully close to choosing zerØ

    I know what i want from Mercury. But maybe I'm just crazy.

    A new small car which is coming in 2010 I just hope it's more than a lightly restyled version of the Focus.

    A new redesigned RWD V8 Grand Marquis.

    I want the Sable to be redesigned along with the 2010 Taurus just with more styling differences.

    I want the Mountaineer to be redesigned and made similar to the Mazda CX-9.

    When the time comes I want the Mariner to be redesigned and made similar to the Mazda CX-7 or Ford Kuga.

    When the time comes I want the Milan to be a rebadged version of the Ford Mondeo or either I want it to be styled significantly different than the Fusion.

    And lastly I want to see an all new RWD V8 Mercury Cougar. (Never gonna happen but it's nice to wish)

    I just don't think Mercury should be made up of small cars and crossovers only.

    I agree with SABLE08 about Merc being a full line. The G.M is still a popular car. I agree the G.M. sells to an older group in general. I said before that the next G.M. should be based on the Milan on a bigger scale on a RWD platform with a 3.5 or 3.7. Why phase out a car that been a reliable model, You should improve with it. Ford WILL lose sales if G.M. is discontinued. I also said Ford should introduce a midsize 2dr coupe. I want a '67 retro Cougar. If not, then a Milan coupe. Today, A Lincoln Mark 8 pass me on the road. Again, another possibility, Lincoln Mark 9 2dr coupe. Ford could offer a 2 dr coupe in Ford, Mercury and Lincoln. Hey Ford, lets work on this next series of cars.
