Re: Mission Mercury
No GRANDMAquis!
Just a few ideas that could be added to fill the lineup... Not appropriate for Lincoln but not offered by Ford.
Mercury XR3 - Euro Spec Focus ST
Mercury Capri - Euro Spec Focus Cabriolet
Mercury Cougar and Cougar XR7 - Luxury Sport Performance version of the MustangLast edited by watchdevil; 02-11-2008 at 06:02 PM.

Re: Mission Mercury
Well, what's Grandma supposed to drive?
I like your lineup though. But in my opinion you gotta have the Sable and Grand Marquis to have a complete Mercury model lineup.

I dare you to chop that grille onto a Mustang...

I can see it now... The Cougar Voga... Insert waterfall grille into Mustang opening.... Insert cleared out taillamps on the rear, slap on the big dumb flying M on the front and rear, borrow some Mariner wheels and upholster the interior in lucious dark chocolate and vanilla creme two tone seating areas... While the extrior is featured in a silvery diamond blue.... It will be a "Devine Design"...Last edited by watchdevil; 02-11-2008 at 06:09 PM.

Mission: MERCURY!
Mercatini-XR6 (finally!) & Mercury-Boutique vehicles
In a recent webcast interview, Mr. M., in talking about concentrating on Fords due to their large share of sales, made me think that near-future Mercs might be limited to the major mid-level segments.
imho: a not-so-large, a mid, & a not-so-small car; plus maybe 2 Cuv's that'd be sorta in-betwn the car sizes; dunno about an actual Suv or anything else...
(note: this is while the Huntsman - Panther - D32 - USEUCD2 situtation is being resolved, say now to 2012)
So this Mercatini-XR6 is more along the line of the 'studio-only template-vehicle' I mentioned earlier than any production car or even a concept.

(some parts are rough, didn't forget the interior... ran out of steam - original at NetCarShow)
Mercury + AstonMartin>JamesBond>Martini = Mercatini- however-1
Imho Mercury could (without stepping on any Blue'&or'Oval toes
) bring out sport &or performance versions for all sub-Lincolnesque (ie MKS) F-Awd models
Mariner gets a 3.5 AWD-only top of the line model, Escape doesn't;
Milan-Ultimate, too;
& the Milanetto-XR3 sport model... maybe the 2.5EB or 2.5EB+Hybrid?
(Ford could use the 2.0-or-2.5EB & 2.5-or-3.5EB for the Fusion ST & GT (if they 'dare')
& if they do a separate Reflex sportcoupe/hatch, I'd give it all 3 EB's!!!
yup! 350+hp in a BC-coupe... buh-bye EvoSti
strictly limited numbers of course,
anyone got Feerari'$ waiting li$t for $ale?)

A recent idea that started as "aNother Surprise from Mercury"...
using the 5 core models mentioned^ as the only guaranteed lineup,
Mercury might be able to be used (not a flattering term but accurate) as an emergency-squad/frosting sales channel.
For instance:
maybe we'll finally get a Cougar only when nextgen Mustang+Lincstang sales calm down?
my ^Reflex^ meets price resistance? Do a Merc;
or when T6 arrives, add a passenger version of the Connect to go (or alternate) with the "Trucklet™"?
maybe
even a neo-LeadSled "Custom" if the MKS's nextgen has room in its assembly line?
so
effectively Mercury would have its regular lineup plus a revolving series of special models = 'Boutique' or M.S.V. (MercuryShowcaseVehicles)
perhaps the Mercatini-XR6 could be built on the RX-7(nextgen?) platform...
ship its 'core' to the U.S. to be fleshed out here...
whether or not it's called a COUGAR...
to be the first Showcase vehicle for Mercury!
* also check out MonaroSS's Zeta Firebird(s) @ GMI based on the Vantage, that got me started on this chop in the first place.
THANKS again, MonaroSS! As I've said before, your chops are literally Inspiring!Last edited by 2b2; 02-17-2008 at 06:11 PM.

Re: Mission Mercury
Mercury line must be a some upscale line of cars. With some exclusive features and more "expresive" and upscale style. Maybe some luxury version of Fords, midzise and big sedans and coupes . I'm not sure that SUVs or trucks must be in the Mercury line of cars.
I imagine a big RWD sedan, a big RWD coupe, a medium size FWD/AWD sedan and coupe and maybe a some kind of people mover ( a Flex version, or a crossover?). That must be the Mercury line of future.
The emblem must be the head of Mercury! not the actual.... And the names must be Montclair,Montego,Marquis,Monarch,Monterrey......e tcFalcon Lover

Re: Mission Mercury
I like the idea of setting Mercury with the Volvo and Mazda brand. Mercury could be the entry level of the three and Mazda coming in second with the Volvo line being the higher brand.
I like that Mazda has the European look, while Volvo has a European look but has a little bit of American in it. Mercury should be mostly American with some European cues.
Mercury should be setting the pedestal with LED tail lights and HD Headlights. More info to come on what I think should be later.

Re: Mission Mercury
Check it out! Mercury ideas from another forum. The renders are very basic, but in a few cases....like the S Max, Falcon, and Mondeo for example....I think this Topnotch does a good of showing just how little needs to be changed aesthetically to turn these cars into proper Mercury models.

BTW, love the Aston-based render 2b2.
